The Futurity Chair had Suggestion boxes at the Futurities for suggestions from
those exhibiting and attending the Futurities.....and I "think" the two
overwhelming responses
were to keep all the same Regions as they are and to give up the 2nd, 3rd, and
4th 'placement'
plaques to save money and the Futurities.
When the results were made public........many on this List had a "fit" about
giving up the
plaques. I'm not all that sure it was those that actually support the
Futurities year after year
and are willing to give up the plaques to keep the Futiries financially stable
that had the "fit" to
pressure the Board to bring them back.
The Board HAD discussed this issue about the plaques for a long time....it was
in the discussions
and a concern when I was on the Board. No one particularly wanted to do
it.....but it probably
seemed pretty prudent considering we keep talking about our Futurities
failing.......?? The Board
did not just toss it out there one day and vote on it. It is an issue.
Oftentimes there are only a
couple of dogs in a couple of classes and the plaques have to be packaged up
and shipped
back.

Not quite right. The committee, without talking to the membership suggested
to the board to get rid of the plaques. The board voted to do it, again
without any discussion. Then the membership made it clear how important
the plaques are. So, Carole working to support the membership found a way to
cut the costs in half, and listened to the members. She then suggested the
plaques be returned, and that was the vote.
The board works hard, but if they don't know what they are voting on, or
don't know the consequences they should not vote for something. I listened to
Carmen say that we have lost 60% of our income by having litters nominated
for free. No one asked how many of those would have been nominated if we
had charged? With free nominations we have to consider the additional
entries we probably get.
Our board needs to think about what they are voting on, and not just vote
if someone suggests it.
Changing the National in 2012 is one of those things. Another is hosting
the World Trials. These decisions were made with little information.
Only the future will tell us if they were blunders or the smartest thing we
have done.
