[ SHOWGSD-L ] Is this part of our problem?

Just read an e-mail congratulating a new Champion and it listed the owner,
handler and trainer. I see the need for a handler but have a hard time
justifying a trainer for confirmation unless the owner has some infirmity. I
have been doing this for over 40 years and have let one handler take one dog
for several months and I was miserable because I was not at the shows. I
train? my dogs and give them to the handler just before the show for them to
groom. That is the only contact they have with my dog.
I have a hard time understanding letting a handler and trainer take your dog
and finish them without you ever being at a show. Co-owned dogs are a
different story.
Maybe the cost of a handler and trainer and not getting to see your dog shown
is part of our decrease in dog owners interest in confirmation. D.D.
