I guess there is some truth in that, but I don't see many German style dogs going Select. I have seen many American dogs that could do Schutzhund work, and many German dogs that could go Select, if the owners chose to do so. I have had people tell me they want the calmer American lines, and some say they want the beautiful black and red of the German lines. This breed can fit in anywhere, do anything, and remains so popular because of that. Different people, different countries, different desires, and different values. That is the difference, not the genetic pool of our breed. I don't care what language they speak, so long as they are German shepherds. Train them, and they will do it. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
