I am passing this on to Illinois dog people. This is the second request in two
days for clubs and exhibitors hiring lobbyist to fight these outrageous bills
in the legislature that will change dog showing and breeding for years to come.
Please read and do something to help. At least look up the bills and send
letters, emails or call your legislators and complain about the bills being
proposed.

Let me introduce myself. I am Rita DeVito of Orland Park, Illinois. I have been
a Shetland Sheepdog breeder for nearly thirty years. I am a member of
Interlocking Shetland Sheepdog Club of Monee, Inc and the American Shetland
Sheepdog Association. Recent anti-breeder legislation has spurred me to become
active in the political arena. We have formed IDOG, a non-profit organization
comprised of all-breed, specialty, and training clubs as well as individuals
who have agreed to help in the fight to save the sport of showing dogs in
Illinois. State by state, the HSUS and the ASPCA are trying to take away our
ability to breed, own and show dogs, chipping away at our personal freedoms.
Our legislators have allowed HSUS to come into the legislature and write bills
such as House bill 198, Senate bill 53 and SB 139(Dock and Crop). We have got
to stand together in our fight against this assault. View these bills at

We have hired a well-known lobbyist, Charles Vaughn of Wheaton, Illinois.
Charles has a wonderful reputation in lobbying for the fire services and water
reclamation districts in Illinois for over 18 years. He fought feral cat
legislation some 10 years ago. His mother raised Great Danes and was a food
representative for Evangers. Mr. Vaughn is indeed knowledgeable about our love
for dog sports. He has been on the job for ten days now and results are being
shown. Our focus is on KILL THE BILL rather than amend anything these people
bring to the table. The contract I have signed with Mr. Vaughn is from February
through the session's end in May and the cost is $2000/month or a total of
$8000.
Our goal is to collect $25,000 in donations to cover one year so we will not
be caught off guard like our neighbors in Indiana just were. The money
collected will be deposited in a Harris bank account with 2 signers. One is
Dorothy Christiansen, AKC group judge and founder/ coordinator of breed rescue
for the American Shetland Sheepdog Association. Neil Glaser of Stone City
Kennel Club, breeder/exhibitor of poodles and dachshunds, will also be on this
account. I am writing now to ask your club to dig as deep as you can to help
fight off this assault by HSUS and ASPCA. No fund money of any kind will be
used for any purpose other than to pay the monthly fees of this lobbyist or to
cover mailings like this. No club dues or meetings are planned unless you want
us to take it to that level. For now we need to get enough money to know we are
protected in the year ahead. An electronic newsletter will be prepared by Mr.
Vaughn and distributed to all clubs that provide us with an email contact.
