As an attorney I have only my time to bill and nothing else to sell. So,
when I was on the board, I kept track of my time on a time sheet. I also kept
the files of the correspondence and documents I worked on.
I averaged 11 hours a week for all the time I was on the board, not counting
the board meetings. The meetings cost me about $200.00 each by the time I
payed for airport parking, the meals that were not covered by the club, and
other expenses such as transportation from the airport, etc.
Your board should be commended, and recognized for what they do. They take
the blame for anything that goes wrong, seldom get our congratulations for what
goes right, and work hard not only at the meetings but between them as well.
At any show they go to, they are required to defend the breed the club and
the actions of the board. They do so with skill and grace, (most of the
time), and give up a great deal to serve us.
Perhaps because I have been there I know more than some what our board gives
up to serve us. They agreed to do this, and for that I thank them. We have
a tremendous leader in Gail right now, and a great group of club members
working for us, the breed and the future of the GSDCA.
If our membership cards, the report of the meetings, or other matters are a
bit late, let's remember how much we pay these people for the work they do,
and then temper our complaints by that information.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
