to KNOW that any particular STUD DOG has passed any or all
of the genetic testing available to us at this time...I WANT and
NEED to know what the LITTERMATES are....Genetics are NOT
JUST ONE ANIMAL...they are the sum total of a pedigree..
What does OFA really mean IF its the only one out of the litter
that WAS xrayed OR the only one that DID OFA??? AND how
about the parents and their littermates...
My Vet happens to think that the OFA testing for HEARTS is a=20
joke...A stethascope test in a noisy area can MAYBE tell you there
are no APPARENT murmers at that particular moment..doesn't tell
you squat about the valves and chambers of the heart where deadly
problems MIGHT be present...and again what about littermates
that might have died from serious heart defects???=20
Temperments??? What is the soundness in the rest of the litter/
pedigree???
Thyroid???? Are parents clear??? What about torsion/bloat
BEHIND the dogs???=20
Its OUR responsibility as breeders to ASK these questions BUT
its the RESPONSIBILTY of the person/people standing that
DOG at stud to answer HONESTLY....WHEN that happens we
will be able to irradicate some of the genetic problems that face
OUR BREED!=20
AND YES it IS costly to do all the testing BUT isn't the greatest
BREED ALIVE WORTH IT??????
