Pacific Standard Time, stormygsd@xxxxxxx writes: when 5 week old puppies don't eat.. something is wrong.. not the diet - even if they have been wormed, they can still have worms, even if they are on Albon and stools are fine, they can still have coccidia or giardia - sometimes the doses need to be increased.. stool samples need to be examined microscopically to determine the cause, but there is one, that's for sure.. 5 week old puppies that won't eat are not normal..and just giving antibiotics without knowing what is being treated is counter productive and can be harmful - i.e make things worse.. Interesting...one of the finest vets in the country, Dr. Harmon Rogers, head of the veterinary dept at Pullman Veterinary hospital (see below) told me to not bother with these tests, he said to give the antibiotics, save my money, see the results. It has never failed to cure the problem. It is very commonbfor some puppies to not want to eat, particularly at 5 weeks, when maternal immunity starts to really break down, and various bugs disrupt their digestion and desire to eat. Generally these pups are lively and appear not sick, just don't want to eat, and usually have poor stool. This is only my way of doing things, it is how I do it, and have found it to be totally successful, particularly with the use of Tylan. To each his (her) own.
