I certainly appreciate that others recognize the Juniors, and that I am
able to do this for them.
When Tedi and were young we decided not to have children. I was told when
I was old, I would be sorry.
I am old, and I am not sorry at all. I do a great deal of divorce work,
and I am glad every day that I do not have children.
I spend a great deal of time telling Summer I am not her grandfather, but
she insists that I am.
It is you,the members who do the donations. I thank you for that, and it
shows that we do appreciate what these kids give up to be there for us.
I have had so many suggestions on how I should deal with the funds. There
are a great many good ideas: make it a college fund; give a small amount
to each of the class winners; hold back each year for the next year and
limit what the kids get; list who donated what; announce how much is in the
fund before the competition so that they know what they are competing for; and
a few others.
I appreciate all the ideas, and some probably are good ideas. But, I have
declined to do this by committee. It is hard work and I beg someone each
year privately to donate. I get private donations from others. If I had a
committee, I could have someone else do the work, but so far this is just
what I do.
Keep sending the donation, I will keep paying the bills, and as long as
one kid shows at the national, I will keep opening a bank account for them.
