You are so right. I have seen multi-group winners who have actually won their "multi-groups" under the same judge, just at different shows! I have seen more than one Select animal, as well as GV and GVx, and other BOBs at specialties and at all-breeds that have made me scratch my head. Saw a class bitch at a specialty show, very obviously limping, go BOB over specials by an intoxicated judge! Every show is a different experience. Every breed win, from Best Puppy through BOB/GV/Select is just ONE judge's opinion on ONE day!! The GSD has a bad rep in some arenas; if we don't show the public, and the judges, correct dogs, especially with good temperament (a HUGE belief in the all-breed world is the perception that our dogs have spooky temperaments..wonder why??), they will continue to be dissed!! One of Harley's group judges did something to Harley that I think was wrong, but, it was something the judge knew could really spook a dog (we thought that he really wanted to put up the Corgi that day). Harley didn't budge, just stood his ground, and went on to win the Group. There are all-breed judges who know a good, over-all dog better than some so-called specialists. There are some all-breed judges who REALLY love GSD's. There are some specialists who have had, and should have, their licenses pulled. We all have a lot to learn from each other. As Mr. and Mrs. Roberts used to say in their ads: Records live; opinions die. Elitism is not a pretty thing. Let's have fun and play nice!! Then again, I've scratched my head at some of the dogs who have received a Sel. rating... same question, "who'd you win under?" I'm optimistic. I think when good moving dogs get out to all breeds, it can only be for the better.
