Nothing wrong with an opinion....having seen SOME all 'rounders where AKC
AOEs are awarded though, realizing to some it's a numbers game (so many dogs
shown, so many awards given), and having seen some of the quality of dogs
that receive them....eeeerrrrrrrr....not so sure I would agree. You have
judges who judge on the "showmanship", i.e. how long they will stand and
free bait, the rings are so small etc., and there are plenty of judges who
only look at coming and going and never turn their head to watch the dog go
around. Now, it would be foolish to take a dog who isn't well trained and
clean coming and going to the all breed ring, but there is a lot more to our
breed than standing, baiting, coming and going and a fluffy coat!

Remember, at some of these shows you don't have specialists in the center
of the ring...quite often you have a judge that can do an entire group or
two. And you can't discount advertising $$$$$$.

The all breed ring is a different game and I like to play there too. That
said....lots of head scratching. On more than one occasion, under a
specialty judge at an all breed show I've gone up over an AKC AOE/Award of
Merit
winner w/ a class dog (who later went on to finish).

So for me, it's more of a question of "tell me who you won under".

Then again, I've scratched my head at some of the dogs who have received a
Sel. rating... same question, "who'd you win under?"

I'm optimistic. I think when good moving dogs get out to all breeds, it
can only be for the better.

Continued success with your boy Paula:)

There are less GSD's with the AKC AOE than there are GSD's with the GSDCA
Selects, Select Excellent, or even AOE's. Ergo, the AKC AOE is a more rare
and prestigious award, IMHO.
