"I don't agree that it would be incorrect of the dog. Most show GSD's
eexpect a certain routine in the ring, to wit, the approach of the
stranger/judge is done usually in a calm, rational manner, not the
bizarre incident with Mr. White. Disrupting a routine is not the
best thing in the world for a German Shepherd. My dogs, at least,
like things to be predictable and normal, and they are used to a
normal routine in the show ring.
Our Breed is protective in nature, and I can hardly fault a dog for
wanting to eat someone for lunch when they behave this way
unexpectedly. After all, if someone approached you on the street
acting crazy, wouldn't you expect the dog to at least become
defensive?

Steve"

Steve? What would your dogs do if approached by a mentally challanged
person acting in a similar manner?

This breed is supposed to be able to detect a real threat, not someone
acting weird. I expect them to also be able to adapt to changes within
their environment without getting totally discombobulated. I would not
fault a dog for barking defensively at a person acting odd, but biting them
is another story.
