Got a call yesterday from a sweet gal trying to do something nice for a GSD in
need. Evidently this IDIOT had placed a one year old European lines GSD for
FREE on a website known as Freecycle. Laura McLaughlin (rescue person) saw it
and contacted Roie Greico. For those of you who might not know who Roie is;
this woman has been running a rescue in Plymouth Mass spring summer and fall,
then packs up and goes to Mexico and runs a rescue there during the winter
months. Mexico is far behind in its animal control and dogs there are routinely
electrocuted using car batteries. Roie is fighting hard to effect
change...anyway, I digress....
Roie gave Laura my number and she contacted me regarding the dog. When I spoke
with the "owner" it turned out that they were BROKERS, bringing GSDs in from
Canada and reselling them here! I got 3 different stories in as many minutes.
Dog was sold as a pup...person has rhuematoid arthritis and cant care for
it....person has a demanding job....dog was FLOWN in....dog came in on her
chest...yadayadayada. I asked her if there was a bite history on this boy, she
indicated no. He has one undescended testicle. No obedience training, no puppy
kindergarten...high drive.
Told her that I would do what I could to help, but that putting the dog out
there for free is opening him up to being taken by Class B dealers and resold
to a lab.
The name of this dog brokering company is Aegis Canine and they are in Plymouth
Mass. I think there is alot here that is not readily evident.
