I remember sometime ago someone wrote a top selling dog breeding book,using
stick figures. Isn't it funny how people who haven't or can't often have
theories they have never tested as a breeder or write books? Do you ever
wonder how someone sits down and decides to pen a book or render an opinion
without ever wondering that someone might say "Now just exactly what have you
done in the breed or what is your experience?" Guess its just another one of
life's little ironies. Bottom line, stick dogs don't breed, and theories are
just that unless put to the test. Somewhere I heard Little also didn't believe
that there was a direct link between smoking and cancer. Another theory I
suppose. If true, certainly takes a swipe at his credibility. I think I had
better go into time out now. Christine

My opinion only here, but I'm thinking the whole fading
colors = weakness thing is an old wives tale. There are
plenty of hale and hearty breeds that come in liver or
blue. They seem to live as long and do as well as any
other dog of any other color. There ARE breeds with
genetic factors of a lethal nature, but I don't think this
applies to blue or liver GSDs.
Remember that Clarence C. Little, the guy who literally
wrote the book on canine color genetics, published his
book in the 50s (_The Inheritance of Coat Color in Dogs_,
Howell Book House, if anyone would like to look it up).
Though he is probably the most often quoted of authors on
the subject of canine colors, his work may be somewhat
outdated today considering how far the study of genetics
has come since his day.
