Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] I am a Fan!
I want to speak up for our Board of Directors. They work hard and spend
many, many hours of their time, with no pay, working for the club.
Sometimes they may have to make a deposit in order to secure a site. A
board sometime in the past did this with Lexington. They paid a $500
deposit. They did not write a contract, as to firm prices, etc.
Times have changed since them. Entries are down. performance entries are
up. The Board has become serious about providing good sites to include
performance.
Topeka off a very good deal to our club. The Board did not just decide on
a whim to change to Kansas.
But a majority they believed that it was in the very best financial
interests of the Club to change to Topeka.
I believe that someone said that the site in Topeka would reimburse the
$500 deposit we loose.
I guess what I am saying is that times change and conditions change.
These can affect decisions made in the past. Would you rather has a board
that
sticks to a decision, when it becomes evident that it is BAD.
Or one that is reasonable and flexible and tries to make a change in the
best interests of the club.
Since our club is structured that the Board of Directors runs the club ,
they have to make the decisions.
From watching them at two board meetings, I believe that all are acting in
the best interests of our club.

I don't generally fly dogs to Nationals, but if I wanted to... there is no
airport in Topeka.

I'm also going to go on record as not being a fan of breaking verbal
agreement/contracts. "We" (those that speak for the club) must have had some
sort of agreement with Lexington to have announced that we were heading there.
Taking advantage of people & situations might work "well" in the short
term --for those without ethics-- but in the long run, it'll hurt us
(club/members).
I am TIRED of politician club representation that say one thing & do
another, whether it be an agreement with a potential site or club issues.
While I'm ranting about sites, I don't understand the logic behind moving
the National around year after year. Common sense would dictate that
returning to sites would work out better. Going into a site blind,
re-inventing
the wheel year after year is crazy. (Doing the same thing time & again while
expecting different results is crazy.) If we returned to sites, we'd know
what didn't work & tweak it to make it work better. Returning to venues
would help with set up, because the membership, the facility, the show
committee would have prior experience. We've certainly been enough places by
now
that we can select a few to bounce back & forth between.
If I wanted to see the USA, I would do it on my own time, not in the off
hours during a week-long dog show. I don't need to see the bright lights of
Topeka. Or Philadelphia. Set up an inclusive National somewhere I can get
to in my dog-vehicle after a day or two's drive & still afford a week's
motel lodging.
