The "flying trot" simply refers to a period of suspension. Â Most shepherd
folks think this is
a characteristic on;y of the GSD. Â Not true; Â almost all breeds have a period
of suspensionÂ
at the trot, Â even a human as it is when there is no support on the ground. Â
The Gs's
period of suspension is longer, thus the term "flying trot". Â It has nothing
at all to do with speed.
In our standard, reference to "covering the most ground with the fewest number
of steps"
comes as close to the flying trot as it can get.

Great posts and the natural gait of our Breed is the slow to medium trot always.
I'm not sure how the term "flying trot" came into the picture BUT it is no
where mentioned in our Standard.
The answer lies in the judges.

other woman who were not track stars to show them successfully. Now we race
them
like there is a start and finish line.
