No matter what anyone else is doing in their breeding program each
individual has to answer to themselves when it is all said and done.
Hopefully all the DNA makers will help everyone to make better educated
breeding decisions. And we could possibly wipe out some of the problems
we have. But we must never get away from structure. I want a shepherd
that looks like one and moves like they should. I think we've all seen
the dog that we didn't think was a purebred and found out that it was.
And that's not just our breed.

So...if I avoid a stud dog who has DM, I'm causing a problem because of
the
gene pool? I don't think so. If 90% of the stud dogs out there carried
DM,
maybe.
Sorry, I just ain't one of these people who will breed to a dog with a
serious health issue in the hope of getting one or 2 superstars--and to
heck with
what happens to the rest of the babies. I'd never tell anyone else how
to breed
but I have my priorities, and they are HEALTH and TEMPERAMENT...first.
