I love having people come out to meet my dogs. They love it too. But, I do it
on my terms. NO STRANGERS are allowed in my house. EVER! I have a nice
fenced front yard. I'll bring the dogs out to them, turn them loose and let
them play with the dogs. I talk to the parents and the kids before they even
meet a dog. I let them know that I expect the kids to be as well behaved as
the dogs. If that doesn't happen, no more visit. Had to do that a couple
times with rotten kids.
I also schedule them to work in with my schedule. If they can't do that, how
are they going to handle unexpected vet issues or emergencies? I don't mind
spending time with people who are serious about the breed and ask lots of good
questions. But, I no longer have patience for idiots. I screen them on the
phone first. I get it wrong sometimes but since I don't breed anymore, it's
not as much of an issue.

ere's the thing, I know the AKC site says "go and see the breeder's
acility" and "meet the dogs", but quite frankly, I am busy w/ "real" work
uring the week, busy w/ family and friends, maybe a dog show etc. during the
eekend, and when I do have a moment's peace I LOVE my privacy and I can't
tand the thought of people I don't know, didn't invite with (perhaps) ill
ehaved children who will trash my well cared for NOT CHILDPROOF home? I
on't have a kennel...I have a home. AND I love to entertain...but not
trangers. AND I don't WAN'T a bunch of strangers coming and going....
et peeve of mine, children who can't stand on the two feet God gave them
nd want to put a foot against the wall or on a cabinet, and oh yes, the
ear ones who hang on the cabinets or think they can wander in the house or my
fav...the child who threw a dog's ball and hit the freshly painted
eiling (which then needed to be REpainted).
on't get me wrong, not ALL children act like that, but it's all too
requent, and I don't usually have 1/2 a day to spend chatting dogs and playing
the entertainer.
ow, plenty of times I'll explain that weekends are jam packed and give
hem my show schedule but when that doesn't work....
...how do you all handle the requests?
