This post Cynthia is exactly why our club started going in schools and
going to youth organization functions. I start every presentation with "I am
a breeder and proud to be one". Peta and HSUS try to get to the kids
early and it is paramount to make kids understand early we are not demons.
Some of the questions asked have been so so good......nothing better than
seeing those brains at work.
There are hopes for the kids and the next generation.........this
generation? well, people can seem to determine what mandates are promoted by
bands
of fools or what actually makes sense.
Its hard pushing boulders uphill!

It baffles me that it now seems that owning a purebred, registered dog is
tantamount to a crime. I remember the days when one would be proud to own
an AKC registered dog. Owners would proudly announce that their new puppy
was "full blooded" and they were very proud when the AKC registration
certificate arrived.
Well, today it seems that the animal rights folks, PETA and HSUS have won
the battle, if not the war. Every time I take my beautiful Ike son into
the local high end pet food store people "ooooo" and "ahhhh" over him and
then ask me, "did you get him from a shelter?" OMG, are you kidding me? Then
when I tell them "no, I got him from a breeder to train and show", they
look at me in disgust like I am ruining the world because I didn't adopt from
a shelter! Now, don't get me wrong, I love shelter dogs and the people
who give them a new lease on life, but since when did it become a crime
against the planet to own a nice dog obtained from a breeder? Just think
about
the change in attitude over the past 10 years. What an unbelievable shift.
I am afraid that we lovers of purebred dogs are too late to change
perceptions. Very sad. cynthia
