I remember about 25 years ago when everyone suddenly became conscious of
hips and hip dysplasia. A prominent breeder (still is) put down a large
number of young puppies, because they were reading hip and joint laxity
in 8 week old babies. A well-known vet (at that time) was sure of this
method.
She told me later she felt she had destroyed a big hunk of her good gene
pool by not allowing these pups to mature. The early opinions of hip and
joint laxity destroyed a whole bunch of excellent dogs and bitches, and
these early opinions did not always pan out. Doris E
