I'm sorry to report such a terrible thing ,but Terri Werner,formerly from
the Northwest,who moved to Boston,MA., was stabbed to death by a former
student
of the Perkin's School for the Blind. Garnet,her dog,is nominated for the
GWA Hero Dog, Terri originally bought Garnet,when she had been hurt, and
needed
the dog to assist in helping her walk. After Terri's full recover, Garnet
needed a job to do,so both started doing volunteer work at a local nursing
home. Then Terri started working at the Perkin's School for the Blind. Since
Garnet had passed the AKC Good Citizen test and the AKC Temperament test,
Terri
thought it would be nice to have Garnet work with the students. It turned out
to be a remarkable success , with Garnet showing instincts that she hadn't
been trained for--like detecting seizures on students,before they had them.
Garnet was loved by all the students,and was given three awards by the school
for the amazing influence and help the GSD gave the students. Garnet was on
the
verge of retiring after seven yrs of work,but at 10 yrs of age still spent
two days a week working. Not much information on Terri. If interested,check on

school, now living on his own,and friends with Terri & Garnet. Dalene
