I had a young male about 11/2 year old who was basically a house dog. He was only in the kennel when he could not go with so he had someone to play with. He loved everyone and everything. One day my husband went outside to bring him in and he went crazy trying to get away from him in the kennel. My husband had not done anything different. but the dog was terrifed. I brought him into the house and tried to get him to let my husband pet him. No way. My husband was never able to touch him again. When my husband came into a room the dog would leave. That really made my husband feel bad. Within a few days he began doing the same thing to the rest of the family. Then he got so he would not want to leave the kennel. This was a dog that was used to going to club meetings, the park, etc. Never mistreated. He got so bad that it was not safe for anyone to handle him but me. The vet said he thought he may have a chemical inbalance or just a weak gene somewhere. We did put him down. I had never put a healthy dog down before. It was a really sad and difficult thing to do. But the vet said the dog was suffering and in a constant state of fear just sometimes worse than others.
