A friend of mine is using moth balls to keep the cats out - guess it would
work on dogs, too.
I personally could not stand the smell.

the hot wire is a great idea. personally, i couldn't do the mousetraps.
the
dog is obviously a menace but he isn't "bad", just has a very BAD owner -
don't think i could physically harm the dog's toes (yes, i have known of
dogs
whose toes were broken by the traps and one, who couldn't get the trap off,
chewed his toe off). you might try dousing your garden or wherever he
really likes
to go in your yard with crushed red pepper. it's cheap and, sniffers that
dogs are, VERY unappealing when they get their noses in it. worth a try
before
the expense of a hot wire.
