As a person who comes from other breeds where the dogs are expected to show
well to be competitive, it drives me to NUTS to no end that so many of the GSDs
are untrained. I understand the need to take the lead and go and the doublers,
but can't the dogs be taught to do a down and back normally, to stand for exams
and to freebait?
Unfortunately, the dogs are worked up into a lather by the time they get in the
ring and can't even begin to focus on what they are supposed to be doing.
It all drives me crazy and I am constantly told that the dogs "shouldn't" be
trained because it will ruin their ability to take the lead.. What does that
say about the breed?
And think of the impression on the public as the dogs are squirrelly in the
stacks and drag their handlers out of the rings.. Dalmatians, Flat Coats, OES,
Corgis, etc an stand in one place and watch bait, why can't GSDs or at least
stand still and watch the doublers..
