I don't think anyone is saying the handlers aren't WORTH what they charge (I know mine is worth every penny) but the reality is that the fees and rates associated with showing (entries, handling, travelling expenses of handler and owner) are rising faster then our salaries. The money from an occasional litter or stud fee doesn't even cover the cost of routine food and vet costs let alone offset the costs associated with showing, membership fees, trophy donations, photos, etc. Of course it is a HOBBY so we don't expect to make a profit or even break even but like someone else stated it's not worth going into DEBT over. I have a budget set that I am able to afford to spend on showing dogs which used to allow me to show 2-3 entries an average of 3-4 shows each spring and fall season which helps build those majors but those days are coming to an end for me after this month. So I can say at least for this person it IS COST that will be contributing to the decline of my entries.
