With any rescue dog, there is always a balance of what you can spend financially and what you would ideally like to know. With a dog that is severely underweight, it is always good to know if you are just dealing with simply a lack of food or if there are some medical reasons for the dog's condition. I've been involved with rescue for quite a while. In my opinion, a trip to the vet is a in order. I would at least want to have a fecal done to check for parasites (to protect your other dogs, too), and blood work. If your budget permits, TLI (Trypsinogen Like Immunoreactivity (veterinary diagnostics for canines with pancreatic disorders) would be good. But I know with rescue, there is usually a limit to what you can do. What you are feeding sounds fine to me. Numerous small meals are a good idea. Good luck!
