Yes, some dogs mature slowly and take more time to
finish but it's still up to the individual. I personally think that most
handlers are fair and earn everything they get.
Thats Very true from the both of you. A professional handler is just that!
PROFESSIONAL.
I think the hardest thing for me (and thats true with all of the breeds I
show) is to WAIT to spend the money. Yes, its true that dogs need exposure, but
sometimes, trying to convince a client to wait until the dog is mature and in
PEAK condition is like pulling teeth. I had a wheaten bitch that was going to
be easily to finish bitch, but not at 13 months. I tried to convince the
ladies to wait for 10 months. Wait untill her coat was better, she had bodied
out and put on proper weight. No. they woudlnt hear of it. So off we went. 10
months later when shes ready to go, all we had to show was about 16 major
reserves---to the tune of "nice bitch, but not fully mature yet". Of course
when the bitch was really ready, the money was gone..
As a handler this is probably one of the most frustrating things to realize
you have the "goods" and an overeager client who doesnt want to wait. I try to
tell them to save the money and put in conditioning... after all wouldnt you
like a dog to finish in about 2 weeks really fancy at specialties undefeated?
