Some of the handlers do.....not all.
This is not handlers bashing. I have always admired the way you present the
dogs and the way you handle the dogs. I have trusted Greg Eschette with my
TJ, and God knows I can't stand sending that dog anywhere. TJ loves both Greg
and his wife Linda, and I have often recommended him to others. Bill Basu
has handled my dogs, and he is a pain in the rear to deal with, but I guess it
could be worse...... he never charges for grooming my dogs, 'cause he
doesn't. But he can handle any of my dogs any day, he has always been clear
and
honest with me, and I've done the same. Tachi is the most expensive handler
in
the world.....I've been supporting her for 20 years...<G>.
I also think is my responsibility as the owner to bring my dogs ready for
action on show day. That means in good condition, trained the best I can,
groomed and walked. My handlers usually just have to worry about going around
the
ring. I have never received nor asked for a discount because of this. I
always thought that was MY responsibility.
Not everything has been rosy, though. I had a bad experience with a handler
who took awful care of one of my dogs. He will never get another dog from
me, and I will strongly advice anyone from sending a dog to him.
I have seen both sides of the coin. There are always two sides.
I have plenty of respect and appreciation for the handlers. I can't do it,
so if you guys can, yes, you should get paid for it.
The original point was: Some handlers charge outrageous bonuses and extras.
This is in addition to handling fees and expenses. There is no
justification for this.
Not that I am paying that kind of money. My husband would sh_t a brick if I
did....<G>
