In the wild the Alpha of the pack will always eat the liver. When my dogs
were into catching possums, Elsie would eat the liver and pass on the rest
to the underlings. Hmmmm I LOVE liver but properly cooked with a bit of
sour cream and raspberry jam. Have no idea if loving liver says something
about me?
Next the pack would eat the rest of the organs and entrails.
After that comes the muscle meat
and the last is the skin and hair depending on their place in the pack.
Until the 50s I think there was no such thing as kibble. I remember being
told that Ann Mesdag had a big pot of stew always going for the dogs like
it was in the olden days. In the winter I like to do that as well. I
don't remember that domestic dogs died younger then. There was just no 13
club
to keep track.
I feed kibble but add some of the natural goodies as well. Grains are not
a natural diet for a dog. However, when Wilma the coyote come to live
here some times of the year she does dip into the avocados.
Some of both sides works well for me.
