My point is: these are unexpected moments, and the frosting
on the cake
of life. For these dogs to take the training and
conditioning, and
maintain their happy, sound temperaments is proof enough of
their worth,

I am going to agree with my good friend Doris on this!
While I am not at all in favor of people cheating and God
forbid, drugging a dog - So short sighted in terms of
abusing the body of a beautiful animal that is out there for
our enjoyment and to please us, I am somewhat cautious about
the continuous process of adding requirements - sort of like
our government and the making of laws!
Lord, you can't walk out the door today without breaking
some law unknowingly, like owning an intact dog or having
your trash can visible by satellite photography or who
knows!
It would simplify the process of selecting a GV and GVX
however. You know, add about 10 more requirements, along
with the dropping entries and you would not need 5 judges.
You might not need one - you could leave it all up to the
only dog or two who met the qualifications. The owners could
fight it out and would not even need handlers. Everyone
would save a lot of money as only three people would be
there. (I exaggerate!) <G>
It is a big and gala affair and the honor of winning is
something truly special. And yet, it is not a format for
testing the human race and assuring that there is no
dishonor among us - it is primarily the measuring of our
dogs against the standard. AKC rules - YES! Additional
challenges and hurtles to our titles - Maybe not as grand an
idea as it seems.
I love to go enjoy a good dog show and see all the dogs and
people. Although our national is certainly special and has
additional rewards to offer, it is, in the last analysis,
just one of them.
