This is a post I received earlier this evening from someone in another
breed...
who, years ago, showed Shepherds. I think these thoughts mimic mine...
and those of many others.

The bottom line is that there is absolutely no incentive for the average
person to breed and show dogs, much less judge them as well. I guess the
handlers and backers will start having to buy them from Hunte's breeders (of
course, some of their 'big winners' already look like they came from
there....). Virtually all the morons who think these things up ARE either
completely removed from showing dogs for decades (and came from the handler
ranks anyway, not the 'breeder' ranks), OR are hired from the general pool
of people wanting jobs who have never had any experience with our sport and
become instant experts solely from the AKC business point of view. I think
the Shepherds will be more hurt by the 4 mos before/after because of the
predominance of handlers in that breed. Since GSDs can't/won't 'show' like
every other breed, they can't be shown by anyone who isn't lean and fit, and
that lets out most people who get to be the age where they ARE
breeder/judges. At least in other breeds most of us can hobble/waddle
around with at least one dog, but even in our breed a number have gone to
Papillions! I'll just go away.
It's difficult not to believe that the power brokers in our sport will be
the ruination of it, and it's a shame they're rushing it like
(I removed a political comment here). ....
