It's very interesting, when you think about how times have changed.
Years ago, when you saw "agent" in a catalog after a dog's name, it
meant that
the person listed was the one you approached to inquire about stud
services, whether the dog was for sale, or if there were relatives of
that dog available,
etc. If there was no agent, you approached the owner for the same
information.. In the same way, in old horse show days, if an agent was
listed it
meant that the horse was most likely for sale. Somewhere along the way
it became "tacky" to inquire....
It has never been illegal to sell dogs at a dog show...not an AKC
rule, either. You can not DISPLAY dogs for sale, though...meaning you
can't take
an ex pen full of puppies to a show and hang a sign on the pen saying
"for sale." People have always sold dogs at dog shows, including puppies.
You just can't make a big deal out of it.
As for doing breedings at dog shows, it is done all the time. Not
in public view, of course, because after all, JQP might see it and we
all know how
sexually repressed this country is.........
Surely there is some way to work this out ... of course, as far
as stud services go, anyone can ask about a dog they like. Youngsters
for sale, tho...
I doubt very much if the AKC would (or could) stop anyone from putting
bandanas on a dog and walking it around..........maybe instead of putting
it on the dogs, people with dogs for sale could tie a bandana around
their own upper arm. Do you think someone is going to tell you what YOU
can wear?
