I am sitting here taking a break from the books - (trying to get a head start
on the 4th year of my BsN) and I contemplate the past year..the world events,
personal events, recent surgery, recent back injury, the dissolution of old
friendships and the creation of new ones, conflict at the workplace, our
accomplishments both personal and professional and now the New Year's
resolutions I will make.
I am thankful for the joy and pleasure our granddaughter brings us, I watch
with delight as 12 year old Hero still rules the roost in the yard, I revel at
the sheer elegance of my beautiful Scorch, Jessie, Rosie. I have bittersweet
feelings of the dogs I have placed into their own homes and families - Lucy and
Khoz being the most recent.
I wonder what changes the next year will bring to us, all of us. I think of
my friend and co-worker who recently carried her baby to term knowing full well
the infant would die soon after birth, of her and her family holding tight to
that little one for the 12 hours of her life. I think of those in south east
Asia who have lost it all - lives, homes, friends, family, I think of the
upheaval all over the world, and I realize how truly small my world is, how
very lucky I am; how quickly my secure existence can be changed forever.
My most important resolution will be to relish every moment, to live each
moment as if it is my last, to make sure those I love know I love them, that
those I care about know I care.
