I thought the rules stated that anyone including a pro handler, judge or who ever could exhibit if the dog was handled by an amateur, ie anyone who hasn't accepted money within the last year or was not a member of their immediate family. If a pro handler "hired " non pro, how is this wrong? Had I exhibited, Kathaleen Strong was going to handle for us, but due to the weather, and her asthma, which was intensified by the cold,we opted not to show. Steve couldn't handler for us( again per the rules) because had accepted compensation for handling witching the last year.Kathaleen has bred a GV and a GVX, but hasn't accepted compensation fro handling since 2000. Per the rules, this would be ok. Now, if we look at the entries, we can see that most the entries were comprised of well known breeders, including , ourselves,Ann, Lew Bunch, Melissa Campbell, the Steiffermans, the Pyles and others( I don't have the catalog in front of me, so sorry if I forgot anyone) So in essence, the amateur futurity was entered by well know breeders, who got amateurs to handle for them. Where exactly is the problem? And one last burning question, Where are all those "newbies" who constantly complain on the list that they can't compete in futurities because owners handlers can't win, judges only look at handlers and that they can't afford it?. Here was your golden opportunity to shine, and yet the entries were made by well known breeders, who entrusted their good dogs with novice handlers. To me what this amateur futurity has proven( and as I suspected) is that we have quite a few "computer exhibitors" who want to complain endlessly on the List, but never get their hand off their mouse long enough to participate even when a venue is created to placate to them. the Board needs to consider this for the future of this event. Even though having classes for each sex within the existing system apparently met with resistance by some on the Board and on the F ut. committee, I think it is evident by WHO entered, and how MANY entered that adding classes within the existing system is the most logical approach and I bet more clubs would be eager to participate. As the thread states, this is "sad" and what makes it sad is that this could actually be a fun event, but if we are going to nit pick and already start with the "they didn't play fair" cry baby crap, then forget it. We will just keep adding more rules and regulations till know one wants to show in it, and what could have been a fun event, will go by the way side. It is sad indeed that you misconstrued 2 e-mails. No one else did. As a Board member, and on the Fut/Mat committee I am trying to help make this new venue a success and wanted to forestall any such a situation as I defined twice now. This takes away from the amateurs that had a great time showing some nice dogs. At this time, I would like to introduce Jake Criss, who showed my two dogs. This was his first time ever showing a dog in a regular class. He has always been there to take in class winners, when there aren't enough handlers and he is becoming a very talented handler. Nancy was great, reminding him that he had to go around the ring after coming and going, showing him how to do teeth and giving hints on how to get a dog to stop pacing. He was thrilled to take his winning ribbons and plaque home with him. Everyone that was there had fun and I heard many positive comments. I think this will fly.
