The German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry!
Announcing the opening of The German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry!
http://www.gsdbbr.org

The German Shepherd Dog Breed Betterment Registry (GSDBBR) is open to all
owners of Registered German Shepherd Dogs, worldwide, that have titled dogs or
dogs within 5 generations of their dog's pedigree that are progeny/littermates
of these titled dogs.

Information entered into the GSDBBR database can only be entered by the dog's
owner, or CO-owner, unless legal proof, i.e., notarized document, accompanied
by a copy of the pedigree, telephone number of the owner, and a signed
permission letter from the owner of the dog, is provided. This information will
be followed up by a personal telephone call to verify its authenticity. Contact
the owner of this site, if you do not have a computer and wish to enter a dog
into the GSDBBR. All pedigrees posted in this manner will be referenced to as
posted with permission in the comments section of the entry.

This Registry has been created in an attempt to gather comprehensive health
information which will enable breeders to make more informed breeding choices
and to avoid doubling up on health issues. This registry will also record many
different types of information. DNA profile numbers, health certifications,
hip/elbow information, titles (Conformation Titles: American/Canadian, German),
Performance Titles, Obedience Titles, German Working Titles, Herding Titles,
Agility Titles, Tracking Titles, Rally Titles, Versatility Titles, Working Dog
Sport Titles, TT, SAR, TC, and CGC Titles will all be collected.

The GSDBBR will go on to record how many litters a dog has whelped, or sired,
and the number of progeny produced in each litter, as well as the overall
number of progeny. Problems that occurred during the whelping process will be
recorded, in addition to any problems observed while the litter was in the
breeders home, along with information pertaining to any health problems that
were discovered in the litter at that time, or a later date. The age at which
health problems present, will also be recorded.

The types of food eaten by each dog entered, and vaccination protocols for that
particular dog will also be collected, in a database form, to try to ascertain
if diet and vaccination have an impact upon the health of the dog. By keeping
careful records, perhaps some type of pattern will emerge, which will shed some
light upon the development of health problems in the breed.

Health problems and causes of death will also be collected in a database form,
along with the types of food eaten and vaccination protocols followed, which
will be viewable in the summary analysis, as the information is collected. The
summary analysis will enable one to view all the dogs with the same health
problem/cause of death, by clicking on a particular health problem/cause of
death. This feature will list the dog's name, sire, dam, age at which the
health problem/death presented/occurred, the sex of the dog that suffered from
the problem, as well as a breakdown of the oldest, the youngest, and the median
age at which the problem presented in all the dogs with that particular
problem. Verification of health problems/cause of death will be covered by
questions pertaining to veterinary diagnosis. Information will also be
collected, regarding the notification of problems to the breeder of the dog
entered into the GSDBBR.

Last, but not least, the GSDBBR will house the pedigree of any dog whose
information has been entered into the Registry, on the same page as its entry.
The GSDBBR is for dogs that are alive or deceased, as long as those dogs meet
the criteria outlined above.

We thank all who will participate in this Registry for caring enough to want to
take a proactive role in bettering the health of the breed. Together, we CAN
make a difference!

GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG BREED BETTERMENT REGISTRY

The only way to understand & estimate the nature of the dog is to study his
whole development. Such a task requires a sympathetic, dog-loving observer, who
tries as far as possible to enter into the innermost mind of the dog, and who
will know how to short-circuit all his purely human points of view. --Max von
Stephanitz
