I remember the bitch of Dorthy Linn's in or around 2004 that floated around
the ring, it was in northern CA at a speciality or futurity, and I have
never seen a GSD Move like that, I cannot remember her name but it is the
girl Dorothy lost too early.

An interesting aside, watch the reaction of the flock when you get a
high-speed,
somewhat frantic dog move along the furrow - they quit grazing, bunch up

prepare for the predator to attack. Not a good way to gain weight. It is
totally
unlike what a tending dog should do.
Is there not a description of the dog moving like a well oiled machine -
smooth,
efficient, rhythmic? That is the kind of movement that relaxes the sheep,
allowing them to spread out and graze. It also allows the dog to continue
tending for many hours at a time.
Remember Burbank when Quik and Tacoma were in the parade of greats? Two
fine old
gentlemen who still moved smoothly, effortlessly and were a joy to watch.
To me,
THEY were the highlight of that show.

The GSD gait is not mean to be a Hell Bent all out foot race...it is meant
to do steady, even work, of tending, service,
etc. It should look effortless at any speed. Speed fools...exciting, not
really. CORRECT is EXCITING. Correct
is exciting at a walk through a trot and beyond.
We hear judges say each year that they want slow and loose, yet when it
comes down to it, it is almost always a
horse race...he who is fastest, wins. Why????
Any dog can look good going fast...try slowing them down and see who comes
apart.
If a dog truly needs to go all out, they won't do it at a trot...they will
gallop.
Slower, moderate, easy pace..brings out the weaknesses and the strengths.
