I guess if showing dogs is all about winning for personal benefit, prestige and
as an ego stroke then politics might be a good thing, but if the whole point of
dog shows is to evaluate breeding stock; finishing a medicore dog because of
who the handler is is never a good for the breed. Any breed.
I wish judges would look at themselves as guardians of the Standard and judge
accordingly. Even if their interpetation of the Standard is wrong, their
reputation and integrity would remain intact.

Depends on the breed you are in and the level you want to play at! Politics are
good or bad, depending on which side of the playing field you are on.. If you
send a mediocre dog who may or may not deserve to finish out with a big shot
handler and he finishes the dog fast, then politics are okay... If you loose to
said big shot handler with his mediocre dog, then it is political...
I have been showing dogs for too many years and been on the receiving end of
both the good and bad of politics..
Someone pointed out before that in truth, MOST judges do try their hardest to
do a good job.. Not sure about at GSD specialties, but at all-breeds and the
specialties I regularily attend, judges try. You might not agree with the
results, but they do try...
And about the only politics are in the specials ring and at group and BIS
level..
