[ SHOWGSD-L ] GSDCA board meeting - national sites

My husband used to work for Ford Motor Co., at the time, one of the strongest 
companies someone could work for.  When he started, he thought he had a forever 
job that paid extremely well and had 100% paid unbeatable health insurance.  
Well, 3 years ago I talked him into taking the buy-out (seeing the handwriting 
on the wall) and go back to school.  He did, and now has a "Career".  The 
reason I'm posting this is that now, Ford has taken away so many benefits that 
for nearly a century was part of their employee's plan & benefits, times have 
changed!
 
As one board member stated when all this was being discussed, (and let me tell 
you, this decision was not voted on lightly), CEO's and board members of 
corporations have to make unpopular choices and decisions for the benefit and 
survival of their company.  Otherwise, there WILL BE NO COMPANY!  
 
I know this first hand since I attended the board meeting.  What I heard and 
saw was very enlightening and impressive.  There was hours and hours spent by 
the B&F committee to prepare for this with data supplied to the board eplaining 
the proposals and budget numbers presented.  A HUGE kudos to the committee, it 
made the board be able to make an informed decision on this very important 
vote.  It was not taken lightly, and listening to the discussion, the wishes of 
the membership was not being ignored, but with all the data supplied and 
reviewed, including suggestions from the auditing firm as well as statistics 
from other National/Shows that do not rotate, it came down to being able to 
keep holding Nationals on a rotation and keep loosing money, or try this for 3 
Nationals at a cost to the club no other venue can come even close to competing 
with, and regain some financial stabiltiy.    
 
I am one of those crazies that tries to attend every National, have missed very 
few, and plan on attending as many as I am able to for years to come.  In order 
to do this, there has to BE a National, and there has to be financial stabiltiy 
to HAVE A CLUB.
 
As I stated earlier, I was very impressed with our Board.  I don't believe 
there is a single member on that board that does not try to do what is right 
for our club.  Since numbers and statistics don't lie, that is what the basis 
for some of these type of votes is, even if it is unpopular at the time.
