[ SHOWGSD-L ] GSDCA Suggestion re: Board

In the event a sitting board member is elected as an officer of the club,
(i.e.
President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary), nearing his/her last
term
on the board as a director, then by a vote of the membership at the annual
election, that officer is eligible to begin his/her term anew as if never
having served on the board.
Nothing causes more problems than giving someone extended time in office.
More so, Roberts Rules calls that if there is a change in terms, it cannot
affect those who are in office and vote for that change. So, even were this
done, it would not be in effect for those currently in office.
Term limits were put into effect with our board for just this reason. The
club gains by new ideas, new board members, and limitations on how long someone
stays in office. We limited the ability to be voted in to judge our national,
and we established a way to keep the board members and officers rotating,
and making sure no one becomes a "fixture". It has been working.
On the other hand, if I ever get senile enough to run again, I want to stay
in forever, so that I can become a "name" in the breed. But, that is just me.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
