I guess I joined the parent club at first because of a need to be a part of
the large unit in the sport that I loved. At that time, back in the 70's,
you needed to be a member to nominate a litter to the futurity system. And
that seemed important to me to be able to do that.
Also, if you had a membership card, you got in free to the Nationals.
Later I understood the importance of the parent club as the official voice
for the breed. And one could not have a say in speaking officially about the
breed without membership. Just as I joined teachers organizations. I got
few tangible benefits from those organizations, but my dues, which were quite
a
lot, went to pay lobbyists who spoke for the betterment of teachers.
I never expected a lot of tangible benefits from the parent club. (Except,
of course, to get in free to the National LOL!) I do believe I contribute to
the breed by being a member.
My one regret is that back in 2003 I missed paying my dues until Sept. So I
lost the continuity of my membership.. So now instead of a 25+ year member,
I am only a 2 year member. But that is my fault. But I will probably
continue to be a member, (if I don't have brain fade again) for the duration,
regardless of how long I continue to show.
