Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Close sable
The Gray Wolf (Canis Lupus) Their coats vary geographically which I've
always found interesting in nature. They come in white, gray, brown, black,
cream-color, tawny, and some nearly all uniform black or white (in arctic
conditions). However the gray fur color tends to dominate, as is evidence by
the name, Gray Wolf. So I'm assuming our GSDs have carried those coat colors
through all of the years in their DNA. But then all of sudden pops out a
Panda coat. Now the herding type shepherd bred to the wolf was involved in
this makeup type. And is the dominate gray gene from the wolf creating those
sables today? This solid gun metal gray you've mentioned sure would've been
interesting to see grown up. What a shame it perished. I don't believe
blue/red's have dark nose/lip/eye ring pigment as well?
