Nobody can deny the time and effort that these wonderful people are spending
to save one more soul.
I have donated off and on but never asked where the money was going. I feel
confident that it went for a good cause, namely our dogs. It's the trust we
place in those people like Dawn who tirelessly spend practically day and
night to save one more GSD. If one feels that their money is not well spent
then don't donate. It's as simple as that. So, please lets put this to rest,
ok?

Looks like its time for me to weigh in on this and put this to bed. As
someone so succinctly put it, "its all about the dogs"...and to that point,
it behooves us to address our concerns in a more constructive manner.
LHSH has been privileged to have assisted more than 350 GSDs on to new
lives. Out of that number, I can tell you that no more than 5% were dogs
that were at least 50% GSD; most were higher. If anyone is interested, I am
sure I can take the two or three hours to wade through the various photos
and get a specific number. That would be two or three hours of my time that
is not being spent sending introduction letters, letters to organizations
for grants, doing the mountain of paperwork that it takes to keep a national
organization running, checking back with the many Rescues who have assisted
GSDs to see how they are going, replying to my twentysomething other Rescue
lists in the hopes of not letting a GSD slip through the cracks, trying to
locate trainers to donate time, etc. As I earlier indicated, having
volunteers who are able to go to the shelter to physically attest to a dogs
lineage would be MOST helpful and LHSH would be extremely grateful to anyone
who would volunteer for this difficult task. When a dog is commited to by a
Rescue that LHSH has agreed to fund and he/she arrives on the transport only
to find that it is NOT Rin Tin Tin, but maybe his second cousin...what would
you have us do? Tell them to drop him/her off at the nearest shelter? Not
only would this be inherently CRUEL, but LHSH would loose ANY credibility
with the Rescue world...We are already treading on VERY uncharted territory
as most of us on the BOD are breeders or exhibitors. I have spent untold
hours trying to explain our mission to literally HUNDREDS of all breed
Rescues who look at us with a VERY untrusting eye as it is! Add to that
trying to explaining to the average Rescue that that committed to the dog
in the first place "Oh sorry...its not a PUREBRED GSD after all...we dont
want to assis after all"....How many all breed rescues do you think would be
willing to take on the NEXT purebred GSD who was in crisis? There
are NOT enough breed specific Rescues to help them all. We do our VERY best
to limit our assistance to purebred GSDs only.
I agree that if someone on the list is dissatisfied with something we have
done, please take it private or post the entirety of the complaint and the
issues involved. Remember; there are always two sides to a story.
Now, lets get on to something more constructive shall we??? As we sit
debating this issue, purebred GSDs are dying. Anyone interested can go to
Germanshepherds.com and see some of the faces who are hoping for a second
chance. Thanks.
