Hi Everybody,
I want you to know that I am very deserving of the big pay increase which
the Board voted for me at the meeting! LOL There has been a lot of work
to do since I got home (not to mention the work preceding the meeting) and
while I try to read most of the posts on the List I just really don't have
much time to answer. This meeting especially there have been a lot of
details to attend to. And if you don't believe me about the work - just ask
Bob. I think he is getting a little bit fed up with Miss Grumpy around here.
Anyway, the Board worked very hard at this meeting and did deal with
several controversial issues. As everyone knows, money is at the bottom of a
lot of our problems. Our membership is down, our Review advertising is down,
our expenses are up. We have not raised dues since 1996 or 1997. I'm
sure all of you have seen your own household expenses rise during the last
14-15 years. Our Review costs us about $170,000 or more a year to publish. I
remember back around the time Gail Sprock took over (think it was then,
might have been earlier) when the then Board decided to attribute a certain
amount of the dues from each member to the Review so the Review would not be
in the red. That is still being done. Problem is it leaves very little
for the rest of the activities of the Club. As you all know, the Futurities
and the National have been seeing problems lately. The Board is trying to
solve some of those problems as equably as possible and increase revenue.
We all want things to be cheap or free but if we want to continue with all
our activities of which there are many, sometimes costs must increase or
changes be made.
Ginny has been working very hard as well this week and has sent me the BOG
to go over. I intend to do that today and get it off to the Executive
Committee to approve. We are trying to do things rapidly so the membership
will be informed as to what happened at the meeting.
