Responsible Pet Owners Alliance has a very diverse membership. (See below!)
Not all animal owners are affected by every regulation or bill we publicize
and oppose at times. But if you haven't been a target yet, just wait! It
never ends. RPOA provides a reasonable voice regarding all species of pets
in the midst of emotional hysteria.
Ohio lawmakers rescinded a 25-year-old law in February to end their status
as the only state in the U.S. that automatically classified "Pit Bulls" as
vicious. The new law becomes effective Tuesday and shows what can happen
if
animal owners band together and speak with a unified voice, presenting the
facts and keeping the truth on the
table. Never compromise or give up! Compromise is for losers -not winners.
Organized veterinary medicine and animal advocates contended that certain
breeds are not more likely than others to bite, and attacks by Pit Bulls
are
rare. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) considers Pit Bull
Bans to be an ineffective approach to public safety. Pit Bull isn't a
breed, per se, but a subjective designation that can apply to many big
chested large dogs, including Mastiff, Boxer, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and
American Bulldog mixes, etc.
"How can you enforce a law when you can't even define what a pit bull is?"
asked Dr. John Daugherty, owner of Poland Veterinary Centre in Poland,
Ohio.
"Ohio's regulation was ineffective and stupid in the first place. For the
most part, the pit bulls that come in my practice are very nice."
