I found this interesting. I think GSDs are used more than many think, and there seems to be a trend back to them. Pacific Standard Time Subj: Some Guide Dog Information Evan: We have never met each other but I and my husband are long time GSD people. I read The List but don't contribute so I am sending this information to you and hope you will pass it along. There is a guide dog 501c organization in Connecticut called Fidelco that breeds, raises, trains and places Guide dogs and, to my knowledge, is the only such organization that employs GSD's exclusively. Their dogs are easy to recognize as a majority are rich sables but all are our breed. The Fidelco folks have an open house every year where participants are encouraged to try using a guide dog while blindfolded and, if you have never done it, it is quite an experience. The organization is found at www.fidelco.org and also on Facebook. They are one of the few things we miss _about Connecticut as we are now living out west. If I remember correctly, Eric Renner also had a GSD guide dog group in California. We have lost track of whether the organization still exists, but, if they are still around, I don't think they are exclusively GSD's any more. I hope you will pass this information on to The List (sorry, I don't know how to do it) and that our fellow enthusiasts will find Fidelco to be the kind of organization they can admire and support.
