I was just responding to your hyperthetical handler and his loss -- I believe
there are not enough exhibitors around to have multiple specialties in any area
in any short time span. That said, the GSDC of the PNW seems to be doing just
fine, positioning itself shortly after the 4 May specialties and doing
conformaiton only.
I believe the answer is to go back to a more natural way of handling our dogs
where owners have the chance to handle thier own dogs. It is the #1 reason I
get when asking the new exhibitors why they chose to exhibit in the USA/WDA
shows. They pay more money for the dogs, pay lots of money for training, even
if they do it themselves, and the costs keep going up as the $ becomes
worthless compared to the euro. But these people get to handle their own dog as
it does not require a specialist to do so. They have the joy of winning with
their dog. I well remember the photo of Ann Mesdag and Ginny McCoy handling
their dogs - don't think they could be confused for Kent Boyles, but they were
able to compete. They were not spring chickens (sorry Ann) in the photo, but
they were determined, competive and the style of handling allowed "normal"
people to compete.
Maybe all that has nothing to do with it, but the USA/WDA get the newcomers
while we keep getting older and older.

but on some of those weekends he will have 2 shows per day -- so this handler
would actually have a few extra weekends to go to additional shows and maybe
increase his take by 25% - now all he has to do is find additional clients.

Mike, I absolutely agree, here in California March and April are Hell months
especially April....It is near impossible to get to all of the shows and
were they to be spread out it could happen. So many clubs have moved into
April now my cost for Entries alone are just at $1000 this flurry of shows
(yes, I am showing more than 1, or 2 or 3...LOL) . Not everyone can afford
this, really I can't but am finding the way.. Add to that the expenses of
getting there and handling fees ect... if I did not have someone that would
work with me on this I just could not do it.....
Having 4 shows in 2 days is not really the issue, the issue is that those
clubs chose to move into an already busy month which is sad cause it can and
will effect the clubs that do not want to or just can not do the same 4
shows in a weekend......
