Great post Peg and unfortunately too true!!
The decades and economy and time are taking their toll on some of us. The
roads to the shows
seem longer and the costs triple what they were and most of us don't breed that
much anymore.
Todays Futurities cannot be compared to yesteryear IMO.
I remember the thrill of winning a CLASS of 41 puppies in a
Futurity....handling myself.
That's a MAJOR in todays environment.....and that was just one class.
Now the shows and Futurities take all day and we have less than half the
entries and that makes
for a very long day.....and with a lot less dogs and a lot less gaiting.... I
don't know why.......?
It's the same with Shows.
Nothing will bring back those days......we just want to try to encourage as
many as we can to
enter and support our Futurities.....or we will lose them. Could be the end
of an era....but we
should at least try.

Amateur event would have been much larger..so what is the REAL problem????

My take on Futurities and Specialties and probably dog show in general is
the same. Declining
entries due to the economy (gas, rooms, meals, handler fees etc) , no new or
very few new
exhibitors to the sport of confirmation, the declining age of the present
exhibitors
( no rocks please),
this includes myself, been there done that, don't need to do it again.
There is also lack of
enthusiasm, little to no comradery at most events. Shows over we all go our
separate ways.
We didn't use to.These are but a few reasons--times have changed, sometimes
not for the
better. (JMHO) Peg
