Well Peggy, I respect your opinion, you are usually an incredibly "on the target" voice...but personal experience here in the Southwest says different. When El Paso, Texas passed mandatory mirochip and breeders permits, even though there were over 30 people waiting to testify on the behalf of breeders...city council only heard 3 animal rights activists...NO BREEDERS were allowed to present their views. I hear basically the SAME thing happened in Albuquerque. City council members have their own agenda based on how they can get their term extended, and that is not from individuals, but from groups that have the $$$ behind them to futher the candidates goals. Now when we are talking about State politicians it gets even worse. The animal rights organizations understand how it works and they are playing the system, while we are still single citizens trying to make our voices heard. We are being out-SHOUTED by money and political clout. We really need to band together as a LARGE political voice.

I'm not Ginger, but Ellen, you are wrong. Enough individual voices can certainly have an impact on our legislators...we prove it over and over again. Yes, lobbyists and large groups are effective, but no legislator at any level ignores hundreds after hundreds of letters/calls/faxes/emails. Your attitude is not helpful...we need groups, for sure...but individuals can't just lay back and wait for someone else to do the work.

Ginger,

If you still believe individual voters can influence political events, you are living in the past. Today it is all about lobbyists and special interest groups. We need to band together as one LOUD voice...not a bunch of individuals who are not taken seriously. That is how the animal rights groups are making their mark and winning their agenda. We need to adopt the same tactics and our numbers WILL prevail. I think the AKC should step up..but that is only MY opinion.
