I think the original aphorism is from Fritz Perls and summarizes his Gestalt
attitude about relationships. The ending goes, "I do my thing,you do your
thing,and if we can get together it's beautiful,but if we can't it can't be
helped." The original actually reflects a rather self-absorbed philosophy
of life.
