Exactly ! This is happening in so many areas of our very country. Lower the
bar and the goal
is lowered. Look at what has happened in education. This is directly related
to the standards
that we uphold as breeders. I do not want the standards lowered; I want to
fly far from the
mediocre, aim for better and better. Kumbaya and political correctness be
d_____ed.

In the pursuit of being "kumbaya" we disregard the true nature of the
competitor.I had a discussion the other day with a gal I work with who told me
her husband wanted a "Red Fox Labrador retriever." I listened politely and
explained to her why each breed of dog has a standard and that each designer of
each breed had a purpose in mind when the breed was created. Bottom line, to
deviate so dramatically from the any breed standard that it is no longer
recognized as that breed is in essence a slap in the face to the creator of a
breed. Although my friend's husband will probably do as he wishes, I think she
got what I was saying.
Perhaps no one has noticed, but a few years ago the GSDCA as well as the AKC
began lowering the standard bar to generate participation( and funds) in our
sport. First it was the "Reserve system",then changing the entry time for
futurity nominations to make it easier, then followed by the Amateur fut/mat,
now any dog can be an obedience Victor even if it only vaguely resembles a
GSD,and of course Akc is now awarding points to dogs who go reserve at 5 pt
shows, plus mixed breeds can now compete in performance events. What some
don't seem to realize is that the higher the standard bar is raised the better
the quality of breeder, continue lowering the standard bar the poorer the
quality breeder. Notice I didn't say dogs..I said "breeder" because the breeder
is what creates the dog and if breeders become "poor quality" the dogs will
follow in tow. C

What/ who was the driving force behind the vote? I don't remember hearing
anything about it until recently. Was a need for change discussed in the past
and I just missed it? Seems like the motion/vote was out of the blue... or
maybe I'm just out of the loop! (highly possible!)
