Boy is this true...the only dog that I have bred that the owners wanted to
give up when the wife had a baby and decided to move from California to
Florida,
would not tell me. Luckily she told her vet, who happened to be a good friend
of mine and she called me. When I called the owner, it took several phone
calls and several weeks for her to call me back. When she finally did, I stated
that I wanted to dog back and I would fine a home but to give me a deadline.
She agreed to give me several weeks notice. One day she called and said the
dog
had to go in two days. Luckily I had been calling some people who were on my
puppy waiting list and through one of them, I found a great lady in SF who
came over to meet Gussie, took one look at her and said "Let's go home" . Off
Gussie went without even a look back at her previous home! This person is now
one of my dearest friends and has since purchased two more dogs from me and was
the first person to put a Performance Award of Merit on one of my dogs.

It worked out very well for all of us. But I learned two things...one go
with your gut instincts on people...even if they say all the right things.
When
I interviewed the couple, they both gave all the right answers but for some
reason I had a funny feeling about them but someone I knew who knew them
vouched
for them and said they would be a good home. Since this was my first litter,
I thought maybe I was being too picky...not! Now I listen with my gut and
not necessarily with my ears! And the second thing I learned, that even if you
have it in your written contract that the owner is to contact you, the
breeder, if they have to give up the dog, it doesn't mean that it happens.
